The Pilgrim of the Night

The Pilgrim of the Night

Reflect apon the journey into the darkness

By Sri Aurobindo

I made an assignation with the Night;
In the abyss was fixed our rendezvous:
In my breast carrying God’s deathless light
I came her dark and dangerous heart to woo.

I left the flory of the illumined Mind
And the calm rapture of the divinised soul
And travelled through a vastness dim and blind
To the grey shore where her ignorant waters roll.

I walk by the chill wave through the dull slime
And still that weary journeying knows no end;
Lost is the lustrous godhead beyond Time,
There comes no voice of the celestial Friend,

And yet I know my footprints’ track shall be
A pathway towards Immortality.

Here we clearly understand Aurobindo’s visitation to his unconscious nature, his ‘Underworld’. How essential this work is and at the same time how painful it can be as we begin to see all the levels and the depths of our darkness and unresolved emotions and nature.

Although as the therapists and wise people know, when we manage to eclipse our ignorance and are able to bring this nature into our objective gaze. There begins the rejoiceful process of creating light out of the darkness.
Truly it is the process of bringing the beauty of the light into the enigma of the darkness, where a true furnace of force and knowledge is released in the alchemy of this transformation.

We begin to feel the emergence of our lost nature and the journey to wholeness becomes a reality.
